About the Open Alliance for
PostgreSQL Education

The Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education (OAPE) is a joint industry initiative founded to establish a new, independent, and globally trusted standard for PostgreSQL education and certification. It brings together leading companies and experienced professionals from across the PostgreSQL ecosystem with one shared mission: to create transparency, quality, and trust in how PostgreSQL knowledge is validated worldwide.

At its core, the Alliance exists to close a critical gap in the PostgreSQL landscape—the lack of an independent, community-aligned certification framework. While training and certifications exist today, they are typically tied to individual vendors. OAPE changes that by creating a neutral, collaborative, and industry-led standard.

Addressing a
Long-Standing Gap in PostgreSQL Education

For years, the PostgreSQL community has discussed the need for an official, widely trusted certification. Yet practical execution consistently failed due to:

  • Lack of independent supervision
  • Conflicts of interest between training providers
  • Missing coordination and ownership

The Open Alliance for PostgreSQL Education was created as a joint industry effort to overcome these challenges—with a transparent, open, and collaborative governance model.

Our Mission

To define and establish a globally recognized, independent PostgreSQL education and certification standard that is:

  • Open and community-aligned
  • Industry-driven and vendor-neutral
  • Technically rigorous and verifiable
  • Trusted by employers, professionals, and institutions worldwide

Beyond certification, the Alliance enables a structured ecosystem of training programs, exams, and long-term skills validation that moves forward hand-in-hand with PostgreSQL’s evolution.

Our Principles

The work of the Alliance is guided by four key principles:

  • Independence – No single company controls the certification standard, ensuring neutrality and long-term trust.
  • Transparency – Certification processes are version-specific, publicly verifiable, and built for lasting credibility.
  • Openness – Designed in the spirit of open source, inclusivity, and diversity, following principles central to the PostgreSQL community.
  • Community Alignment – Designed in the spirit of open source, inclusivity, and diversity, following principles central to the PostgreSQL community.

The Alliance operates under a clear governance framework inspired by the structure of the PostgreSQL community.
